Ndjili III: Our Sister Congregation in the Congo
Ndjili III is our sister church in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly
Zaire). We have regular correspondence with this congregation, and are working to develop a closer relationship
with them. In 2002, Second Presbyterian Church helped Ndjili III to put a new roof on their women's pavilion.
We intend to become even more closely related to Ndjili III through our ties with Etienne Bote-Tshiek, a missio
nary
from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mr. Bote-Tshiek acts as a translator and facilitator between our churches,
and serves on the staff of the Presbytery of Eastern Virginia.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to struggle with conflict since the overthrow of President Mobutu.
The leader of the revolt, Laurent Kabila was assassinated in 2001, and his son, Joseph Kabila, became president.
He has been unable to resolve continued conflict in the region.
